the no call was the correct call though at the end of the game
The helmet thing wasn't that big of a deal to me. He made a play and he thought the game was over. Which in reality it was. But I don't like the 9 flags for UT vs. 1 flag for Bama. Early in the game when Crompton was sacked to kill our first drive the Bama defender was clearly offsides. Also there were several no calls on returns that I seen. I know it goes both ways. I am sure there were some no calls that worked in UT's favor. I don't know if anything is intentional or not. But the difference speaks for itself. We had two separate drives killed by penalties. Which I believe cost us the game....
But either way UT had a chance to win on the last play and didn?t get it done. It stings a little. But that is part of it. You have to move on?.
The thing I believe that makes this easier to get over is the way this group is playing and the level of play the coaches are getting out of these kids. I think most everyone would agree we probably have less overall talent at UT than about any time I can remember in the last 20 years. Yet we have the #1 team in the country beat if we can hit a 43 yard FG. We flat out dominated the 2nd half. Even though we obviously had less depth. Then you look at the recruiting class that we are putting together. You look at this staff?s track record recruiting. Then you see the play on the field and start to think what that will look like when we have three or four top 5 classes?..
It is pretty positive?. But this game hurts either way. It is one that would have went down as one of the biggest wins in the history of UT football. And to think you missed out of that by a 43 yard FG is hard to get over?..
The offsides was close, it could have went either way, he may have started early Ill give you that
You say you saw no-calls on the UT returns, I saw an obvious hold on UT on one of them, its good the refs arent fans.
on the 9 flags to 1, how many of those were false starts/delay of game-type calls? Calls that were not objectionable.
and for the record, Kiffin is stupid. If the helmet call was made, for one it would have been wrong, seeing as how its a dead ball foul and there was no time left, AND UT would not have the ball!!! Alabama recovered the kick, so Alabama would have had the ball and been penalized 15 yards. Its obvious kiffin has no idea what he is talking about.
Like I said I am not really upset about the helmet deal. But what is stupid is the rule. Not Kiffin....
If a player takes his helmet off in the middle of a play while the ball is still live. It should not be a dead ball foul. The NFL has it right. What if the guy threw his helmet in the air and blocked the field goal? I mean the rule makes no sense. But Bama deserved to win they made the play when they had to make it. Don't get me wrong. I am not making any excuses , we lost. But I do think the officiating needs to be looked at because it hasn't been good.... And 9 to 1 ,like I said, speaks for its self....
the rule may be stupid, but the coach who supposedly knows the rules sounds pretty stupid coming out and embarrasing himself.
he said that UT would have gotten the ball back and got to kick again 15 yards closer, which is false.
Alabama would have had the ball, and took a knee. The helmet is moot.
9-1 penalties. Ask yourself, how many of those were on false start calls, delay of game, cut block, etc.? Then look at it like that. If the calls are not objectionable, how are the refs wrong?
I bet 50-60% of most coaches don't know all the rules...... which doesn't make them stupid. I agree Kiffin shouldn't have said it in the media but I can guarantee you not all coaches know every single rule. Kiffin will eventually learn what he can/can't say in the media. He is still a young pup.
Heck Gary Danielson thought he was right and later had to come back and apologize for being wrong about the call.
And to be honest I didn't have a clue as to what the call would have been.
On a different note, the kicker who has committed to UT, Michael Palardy, I sure as hell hope he stays committed and signs in February. His Coach said that at a Florida clinic here recently that he made field goals of 55, 60, 65, and 70. He attempted one from 75 but it hit the crossbar. And these weren't of a block, it was on the grass, live snaps, etc. If true, which I wouldn't know why it isn't, his coach is one of the best kicking coaches in high school football and has produced numerous D1 kicker/punters in his time. The kid is almost 100% on touchbacks this year with most all of those going out of the end zone and he is averaging something insane on punt avg.
If this kid does sign with us he will be doing all 3 kicking duties next year. Can't believe I am actually talking about a kicker as one of our best recruits.
dude I would guarantee 85-95% of the coaches know all the rules.
Kiffin was mad, and upset and spoke without thinking.
He knew the rules, he was Kiffin being Kiffin.
I have the utmost respect for the UT football players after Saturday.
Kiffin? not so much.
